The update introduces a “sensitivity warning” that blurs nudity detected in Apple apps, including FaceTime, Messages, AirDrop, and Contacts. The feature was designed to help protect children and non-consenting users from explicit material. But some social media users say the warning system has become an unexpected problem during consensual video calls with partners. TikTok user Jamie Knowles shared his experience after receiving a warning while showering during a FaceTime call with his long-distance boyfriend. Knowles said in a TikTok video, “It blocks your screen, like, ‘Are you sure you should be doing this? No one’s forcing you to do anything? If someone is forcing you please call this number,’ and I’m like, ‘No, carry on.’” He later explained that users can disable the feature. Some users also raised privacy concerns, questioning whether Apple employees could view FaceTime content. However, according to Apple’s support pages, the sensitive content detection happens directly on users’ devices, meaning Apple does not have access to photos or videos unless a user reports content for review.
