Deep Dive into Just Rum Part 1 - Blackberry Rum and Blackberry Lemon Drop 2024E046

Today I wanted to take a deeper dive into Rum expressions from Just Rum in Sandy, OR. I had done an overview of their Craft Rums back in February, but I have some new things that I didn’t have back then and wanted to try a few comparisons and Cocktails.

For the first review, I have an old bottle of their Blackberry Rum and a new bottle. John HasBrouck of Just Rum recently told me that he has improved the taste of his Blackberry Rum, so I wanted to compare them.
Both are a 40%, 80 Proof Rum. These are made with Blackberries that grow at the distillery.

The Original Blackberry Rum 40 ABV, 80 Proof
Taste Profile: Blackberry and rum flavors. Has a good taste, but mainly for mixing.

The New Blackberry Rum 40 ABV, 80 Proof
Taste Profile: A little better, blackberry and rum flavors.

Now Let’s make a simple cocktail from this Rum.

Blackberry Lemon Drop
Ingredients:
• 1 oz Blackberry Rum
• 1 oz lemon juice
• 1 oz simple syrup
• 3 blackberries
Instructions:
1. Rub lemon around the rim of a martini glass and sugar the rim.
2. Muddle 1 berry in the glass and muddle 2 berries in the shaker.
3. Build in shaker with ice, shaking hard to break up the berries.
4. Strain into the glass.
5. Float a dehydrated lemon wheel.

So that is my comparison of the original and the new versions of Just Rum’s Blackberry Rum and a Blackberry Lemon Drop Cocktail. I hope you get some of this great Rum and try this cocktail.

Just Rum is a craft distiller out of Oregon. They have many great expressions.
Some can be seen at their website, but some are limited releases.
You can purchase these at the distillery or from area stores.
But the secret is that you can order from their website or email them to ask what is available but not on their website and they may be able to ship it to you.
