DO NOT LISTEN to someone when say not to open up your pressure relief valve on your water heater when you are draining it. The reasoning is that once you open it it will continue to leak after you close it. Well that’s a pretty clear indication that you need to replace your pressure relief valve. By all means every year when you drain your tank, you should always test it to make sure it opens and closes properly.
