German Chancellor Angela Merkel greeted French President Emmanuel Macron on a red carpet at Meseberg Castle outside Berlin ahead of the talks, and the pair were later seen sitting down for refreshments outside. This weekend, Merkel said she was convinced Europe could overcome these challenges even though coronavirus continues to be a threat.
