Cloth Draping on 3D Rabbit — 1 to 32,768 Surfaces Resolution #shorts

How mesh resolution changes cloth draping on a 3D rabbit — from 1 quad to 32,768 quads. A flat cloth falls from above onto a rabbit model floating in dark space. At low resolution the cloth behaves like a rigid sheet barely conforming to the shape. At high resolution it smoothly wraps around the rabbit's contours — ears, head, and body — with realistic fabric folds. Everything rendered in Rust + wgpu (Vulkan backend), entirely on CPU with llvmpipe software rasterizer.

Collision uses the actual triangle mesh of the 3D rabbit model (14,975 triangles generated by Meshy AI). A spatial grid accelerates closest-triangle queries: the mesh bounding volume is divided into small cells, each storing overlapping triangles. For each cloth node near the rabbit, only triangles in neighboring cells are tested. Push-out uses the closest point on the nearest triangle and its face normal.

9 resolution stages: dim = [2, 3, 5, 9, 17, 33, 65, 129, 182] for [1, 4, 16, 64, 256, 1024, 4096, 16384, 32768] surfaces. Progressive timing: early stages 1.7s each, final stage 23.6s. Verlet integration with 12 substeps, 5 constraint iterations. Written in Rust, rendered headless via wgpu 24.
