Storagetech Flame Arrestors

The Storagetech Model 300 Flame Arrestor is a safety device designed to inhibit flame propagation in a gas piping system as well as low pressure tanks that contain flammable liquids. Specifically designed to meet the high standards of the Oil & Gas, Chemical and Petrochemical industries, it has a flame barrier with a large number of defined passage gaps. The gap cross section is set based on the properties of the flowing gas to ensure that it is cooled effectively and secured against a flame flashback in the case of continuous combustion. Flame arrestors are generally mounted to a flange or pipe which is connected to the vapour space of a storage tank or pipeline. The Model 300 is designed for Vertical In-line installation and is a Deflagration Flame Arrester intended for use in a pipeline close to the source of any potential ignition source by minimising flame speed and the development of an explosive pressure. The flame-quenching element is designed to be three or four times the area of the pipe in which it is installed, and is assembled between two flanged reducing spools. The flame arrestor’s element has tightly rolled scroll or scrolls of crimped stainless steel ribbon to form passages through which the vapour passes. The area of each passage determines the level of protection that the element provides. This In-line Deflagration Flame Arrester has a Maximum Experimental Safe Gap as per standard, and is suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA. Under normal working conditions, the flame element allows the bi-directional flow of air and flammable vapour. In the event of a fire or ignition external to the equipment that ignites the flammable discharge, the flame arrestor will quench the leading fire by absorbing and dispersing the heat as it passes through the element.
