2010 Arizona bill blueprint for ICE raids | 60 Minutes Australia

In 2010, 60 Minutes met the self-declared "toughest sheriff in America" ahead of Arizona introducing the now-partially struck down Senate Bill 1070 - then the strictest anti-immigration law passed in the United States.

Former Maricopa County cop Joe Arpaio was notorious for targeting Latinos and unconstitutionally detaining them over suspicion of illegal immigration. His state's Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act was infamous for the "show me your papers" provision, which gave law enforcement extra powers to question anyone they liked.

The ICE raids currently unfolding in the United States have been compared to the 2010 Arpaio-era practices.
