Russell Nelson witnessed first-hand the realities of World War II on the infamous battlegrounds of Okinawa and Peleliu, in the Pacific.

As a young man Mr Nelson signed up with the Marines and was posted, via Australia, to the Pacific Theater. What followed was a fierce campaign of island-hopping by the US military, driving the fierce Japanese forces back towards their homeland.

In this interview Mr Nelson recounts in great detail what it was really like to fight on the front lines in World War II, recalling stories of friends, of great comradeship in the most extreme circumstances, and of the brutal, horrific realities of the war in the Pacific.
