Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has long been viewed as a possible successor despite keeping a low public profile. Born in 1969 in Mashhad, he built close ties with influential clerics and the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
