HOLSET TURBO Turns Slow Old Mercedes Into A Street Monster (OM603 SuperTurbo)

In this series of modifying and test the 1986 Mercedes-Benz 300D that came with a Turbo Om603. We installed a Holset Turbo hy35 and was a lot faster than stock Turbo and 7.5 mm injection pump. Then we tested a Holset h1c and the intercooler the car was even faster but then the turbo let go. This time we revisit the hy35 but this time with the intercooler and external wastegate the hy35 had some cracks in the exhaust housing that we welded up. We decided to also test a Holset he351 those came on the newer Cummins pickup trucks. The he 351 is supposed to be a larger turbo than the hy35 but spool faster than the hx35 which would give more power to the om603. Testing 0 to 60 with the hy35 the fastest time we got was 4.5 seconds which is just as fast as a 2010 Mercedes E63 AMG. VERY IMPRESSIVE for a stock 40 year old engine! So then we install the Holset He351 and go testing the 0 to 60. The he351 spools a little bit slower so the 0 to 60 came out .4 of a second slower. I would imagine the He351 would be faster in a quarter mile but 4th gear still doesn't work. Both of these turbos were fairly cheap off of Facebook Marketplace and are good options for an om603 Turbo if you're interested in just making it fast but don't really care about the drivability around town because they would be a little bit laggy around town.
