Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is Back! Let's See What Has Changed! My Ride And Review.

**Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom) recently underwent a major "mountain-top to cavern-deep" refurbishment.** It closed in January 2025 and reopened on May 3, 2026, after about 16 months of work.

### Key Upgrades and Changes
- **New track and trains** — Complete replacement of the track for a much smoother ride, plus refreshed passenger trains and an updated ride control system.
- **New Rainbow Caverns scene** — A highlighted addition with phosphorescent pools, glowing effects, audio-animatronic bats, and more immersive storytelling (the caverns feel a bit more "rumbling" and adventurous).
- **Refreshed effects and animatronics** — Restored or enhanced special effects that had been dormant, plus refreshed audio-animatronics and new lighting/details throughout.
- **Lowered height requirement** — Now 38 inches (down from 40 inches), so more kids can ride.
- **Other enhancements** — Repainted elements, possible queue improvements, and overall preservation of the classic wild mining runaway train experience while adding "new magic" and longevity.

The ride keeps its signature hootin' and hollerin' fun but feels fresher, smoother, and more detailed. Many riders note it runs noticeably smoother post-refurb.

**Note:** Disneyland's version had its own separate refurbishments in the past, but the big 2025–2026 overhaul people are talking about right now is the Walt Disney World one.
