AUV: Underwater Acoustic Localization
Video submission for 2014 Engineering Impact Awards ASEAN Regional contest.
The Challenge:
Autonomously determining the location of an underwater acoustic source.
The Solution:
By combining the benefits of NI 9223 with NI sbRIO-9602, a robust and accurate system is implemented. NI LabVIEW function blocks are used in programming sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms.
Abstract:
NI products are used to accomplish the acoustic localization task on board an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The NI 9223 DAQ samples the acoustic waves. These samples are processed using NI sbRIO-9602 to obtain the Direction of Arrival (DOA) with real-time broadcasting to the AUV’s Central Processing Unit (CPU). Using this system, Team BumbleBee from the National University of Singapore (NUS) was able to attain first position in Singapore AUV Challenge (SAUVC). This system will be applied in RoboSub, an international student competition at San Diego, USA.
