Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo on Pipeline Road, February 2014
An adult Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo (Neomorphus geoffroyi), along with a juvenile, attends a large army ant (Eciton burchellii) swarm on Pipeline Road in February 2014. These striking, elusive birds live in the lowlands and foothills of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and the Atlantic forest in Brazil. Panama is one of the best places to encounter this remarkable species, and the Canopy Tower in Soberania National Park and Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Anton often have Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoos nearby!
