Green Book (2018) follows Tony Lip (played by Viggo Mortensen), an Italian-American bouncer from the Bronx, who takes a job driving Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), an African-American pianist, through the segregated South in the 1960s. But before that journey begins, Tony faces a moment that defines his character.

After a bar fight where Tony’s temper gets the better of him, his old friend Augie offers him a new “opportunity” — a gangster job that promises quick money and power. For a moment, it’s tempting. But Tony turns it down. Behind his rough talk and hustler’s grin, there’s a man who still knows right from wrong.

This early scene sets the tone for Tony’s transformation. He may live in a world of fists and favors, but he’s not willing to sell his integrity. Green Book reminds us that real strength isn’t in what you can take — it’s in what you walk away from.
