On July 1, 1977 Sharon and Nelson are married for the second time. By all appearances the popular couple are poised to beat odds, and make their marriage work this time around. The previous year, when Sharon first moved to Rocky Ford, Colorado with her husband and two kids, she and wealthy town optometrist Perry Nelson developed an immediate connection. Both were trapped and unhappy in failing marriages and soon found companionship with each other. Sharon was married to a controlling Seven Adventist preacher, Mike Fuller, while Perry Nelson no longer felt any spark in his marriage
