Umeda Arts Theater, located in Osaka, belongs to Hankyu-Hanshin-Toho group, which holds one of the largest railway companies and hotel chains in Japan and has led the Japanese live entertainment industry for over 100 years with its unique all-female revue company “Takarazuka Revue”. We are one of the companies that has the largest audience size in the Japanese performing arts industry.
Umeda Arts Theater aims to realize dreams and bring excitement to its customers all over Japan through a wide range of live entertainment. The Theater holds two halls: the multi-purpose “Main Hall” with a seating capacity of 1905 and the “Theater Drama City”, with a seating capacity of 898.

Today, Umeda Arts Theater is also one of the most active theater producing companies in Japan.
Some of the musicals that we have produced include “Top Hat” (UK touring version in 2015 and the Japanese language premiere in 2018, directed by Matthew White), World Premiere production: “Prince of Broadway” (2015, directed by Harold Prince), “Titanic” (2015 and 2018, directed by Thom Southerland), “The Pajama Game” (2017), “Grand Hotel” (2016, directed by Thom Southerland), “CHESS” (2020, directed and choreographed by Nick Winston), “THE BODYGUARD” (2020, directed and choreographed by Joshua Bergasse) and “Anastasia” (2020, directed by Darko Tresnjak).

Over a history spanning more than a century, the Takarazuka Revue has distinguished itself as one of the world's few all-female theater companies. The Takarazuka Revue's members presently comprise five troupes—Flower, Moon, Snow, Star, and Cosmos—and the Senka, or "Superior Members." Each troupe has about 80 members who are called Takarasienne. Only graduates of the rigorous two-year curriculum at the Takarazuka Music School are allowed to join the Takarazuka Revue. After their first appearance at Takarazuka Grand Theater, they are assigned into each troupe. After a Takarasienne's debut she will be rotated among the troupes, performing with a different one each year. The male roles are called "otoko yaku" and the female roles "musume yaku." Part of the especially unique allure of the Takarazuka Revue is how the women playing otoko yaku seem to be more impressive on stage than real men. The Takarazuka Revue's diverse performances range from original productions to adaptations of comic books, novels, television dramas, and even video games spanning a wide array of genres, as well as performances based on classical Japanese literature delivered in traditional costumes.
