Eloy Casagrande is quite possibly the greatest drummer in the world with his unmatched power and precision. He had a tragic accident breaking his leg falling off the drum riser stage in El Paso Texas a mere 2 days before this show. Miraculously his friend drummer Bruno Valverde from the melodic progressive metal band Angra was able to adapt learning this set on such short notice! Bruno was even able to learn Eloy's ingenious highly technical groove in the complex song Means to An End 11:40 from their new album Quadra.
Must admit I had doubts about Eloy being replaced but once the show started my fears subsided! 04:33 setlist was comprised primarily of more straightforward Max era Sepultura but what do you expect: the newer material is obviously much more technical and difficult to perform. He did not know the songs before and had to learn them all. Another Quadra track Agony Of Defeat 40:57 very well done. Really a day and a half is all Bruno had to be briefed of his responsibilities. He stepped up to the plate. Roots tracks sounded powerfully heavy live 54:58 tribal rhythm 56:56 My buddy I went to the show with was on the main floor downstairs the whole time apparently the crowd and mosh pit was in full swing!
Having been a diehard Sepultura fan waiting at the record shop to cop the now classic thrash metal album Beneath the Remains this was my first time seeing Sepultura live in concert which is kinda odd considering I had seen many of the other great thrash and death metal bands Morbid Angel, Kreator, Deicide, Entombed, Dismember, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Unleashed, Immolation, Carcass, Dark Angel, Exodus, Testament, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, etc. After Sepultura released their Roots album I stepped away from metal altogether but then when I heard the first song from Sepultura's Dante album along with the video for Convicted in Life those 2 songs alone got me right back into the new Derrick era Sepultura since then I've been following each of their albums with much enthusiasm! They have really evolved taking things to the next level!

Only 2 days before this April 6th performance, on April 4th, Eloy posted on Instagram X-ray images of his fractured tibia and fibula bones with the following message: "It is with deep sadness that I announce that I have unfortunately broken my right leg. Yesterday, at the El Paso show, during the break between songs I ended up falling off the stage and fracturing my tibia and fibula. I'm going back to Brazil to start the recovery. I'll see you soon!"

Sepultura played their first show with drummer Bruno Valverde from prog metal band Angra on Wednesday night April 6 at the House Of Blues in San Diego California. Bruno is filling in for longtime Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande at the last three shows of the band's North American after Casagrande broke his right leg. Sepultura North American Quadra 2022 tour with opening bands Sacred Reich, Crowbar, Art Of Shock started on March 4 in Sacramento. Bruno played with Sepultura in LA attended by Rob Trujillo from Metallica at the Belasco Theater Los Angeles and his last show to finish the Quadra North American Tour went down on April 9 at The UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall in Berkeley California.
