Putin remembers Raisi as late Iranian President mourned around the world after helicopter crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday praised the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi as a reliable ally.

Regarding Raisi's death in a helicopter crash near the Azerbaijan border on Sunday, Putin said that Russia is ready to assist Iran in identifying the "true cause" of this disaster. The crash also claimed the lives of Iran's Foreign Minister and seven other officials.

On the same day, during a meeting in Kazakhstan Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized US sanctions on the aviation industry, particularly those targeting Iran. Lavrov argued that these sanctions stop access to essential aircraft parts, putting the safety of air transport in danger. He accused the US of deliberately creating these risks.

Meanwhile, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared 36 hours of official mourning for Raisi's death. Flags will be flown at half-staff across public buildings and military installations.

The United Nations also honored Raisi by lowering its flag to half-staff on Tuesday.
