this should work for all pie firmwares for the 16gb model mine is rooted on 8.0.1 without problems
if you want to root your 2017 16gb nvidia shield tv then follow this video, you will have to unlock your bootloader so this will wipe your device, once you install twrp and magisk you will have full root on your shield tv.
dont use a 4k screen to do this or it will just be black when booting twrp.
