Agri-Pulse Newsmakers: USDA Undersecretary Brashears: NWS not a food safety risk; Puglia on USMCA

Seven cases of New World screwworm have been detected on U.S. soil. USDA Undersecretary for Food Safety Mindy Brashears joins the show to discuss how the Food Safety Inspection Service's 7,000 inspectors across the country are “leading the animal health charge” in the fight against New World screwworm, and why the parasitic pest does not pose a threat to the food supply. Plus, Western Growers Association President and CEO Dave Puglia comes to the studio to discuss the importance of renewing the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement review.

During the panel, Phillip Kauffman, head of the Texas A&M University Entomology Department, outlines the status of the parasitic pest on the ground in Texas. Ron Phillips, senior vice president of policy at the Animal Health Institute, discusses collaboration between the government and animal health companies to make New World screwworm preventative and treatment options available.
