Concentrating Solar Power Program
Beginning in the 1980s and continuing through today, Sandia has pioneered concentrating solar power technology and continues to research solar technologies improvements. Sandia’s unique National Solar Thermal Test Facility includes a solar tower featuring 218 heliostats, a solar furnace, a solar simulator, and many other test capabilities. Research conducted at the facility spans fundamental research through technology commercialization that can impact energy and climate security.
