House Takes Up Electoral Proceedings After Lockdown | LIVE | NowThis

CAPITOL CLEARED, HOUSE RESUMES: It’s been more than 6 hours since a pro-Trump mob breached the United States Capitol, forcing lawmakers to evacuate Senate and House chambers and suspend their proceedings. Many of the protesters had come from a Save America rally in D.C. where Pres. Trump and his allies encouraged them to deny Joe Biden’s electoral win and ‘fight’ to overturn it. The insurrectionists clashed with Capitol Police, toppled barriers, and infiltrated Congressional chambers. At least one person has been killed in the melee, and D.C. is now under a citywide curfew. Donald Trump is currently suspended from Twitter for numerous tweets seeming to incite the violence further.

With the all-clear from officials, lawmakers are headed back to their chambers for debate on the objection brought for by Republican legislators to Arizona’s results.
