Best Minivans 2016 | CarGurus Minivan Roundup
As 2016 nears an end, CarGurus is happy to present our first Minivan Roundup. We had the pleasure of test-driving and reviewing the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, and Chrysler Pacifica this year. Which one is best for you?
Each minivan employs a V6 engine, but power ranges across the four, from 3.5-liter engines making 248 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque in the Odyssey and 266 horsepower and 245 lb-ft in the Sienna, to the Sedona’s smaller 3.3-liter V6 and its 276 horsepower and 248 lb-ft, to a beefy 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque from the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica’s 3.6-liter.
Seating for up to 8 is available in all four models as well, and cargo space maxes out above 140 cubic feet for each minivan. But the way owners access all that space varies from vehicle to vehicle.
All minivans have a third row that folds into the floor, but in the Honda and the Toyota, the second row has to be physically removed. The Sedona features a second row that folds up against the front row, and the Chrysler’s Stow-N-Go second row works in the same manner as each minivan’s third row – it folds easily into the floor.
The specialties of each minivan help define their ideal customer. The Odyssey delivers a track record of reliability and some impressive features like its HondaVac and rear-seat entertainment system in a value-oriented SE trim. The Sienna’s optional all-wheel drive makes it the de facto choice for shoppers in wintry climes. Kia has long been thought of as a second-tier automaker, but the Sedona’s upscale interior and panoramic moonroof help to overturn this falsehood, while its low starting price establishes it as a genuinely good value. Finally, the Pacifica, as the newest vehicle of the four, takes many of the competitors’ best features, packages them into a shiny new package, and delivers class-leading power, towing, and fuel economy.
