Three Eastern Cape police constables were killed in a shooting in Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) in the early hours of 7 May 2026. According to SAPS, officers responded to reports of shots fired at a residence on Rudman Street around 00:45. They found three constables with multiple gunshot wounds. Two were declared dead at the scene, and the third died after being taken to Cuyler Hospital. Preliminary investigations indicate it stemmed from a domestic dispute: a male constable (the former boyfriend of a female constable) allegedly forced entry into the home where the female constable and another male constable were present, leading to the fatal shooting.
