Beethoven composed music three times to the poem "An die Geliebte" by Joseph Ludwig Stol (1778-1815). His first manuscript, dated around October 1811, is known as WoO 140/1. It seems that the second draft was composed in the same year, but it is only a fragment and cannot be performed. The third draft, composed around May 1814, is known as WoO 140/2. There are a simple but beautiful piece about a man's love for a woman.
