2 flights, 5 landings inc short field take off, flying before airspeed registers in STOL Cessna 182.
These Todd Peterson 182's are something else! The canards on this Cessna enable soft field rotation before the airspeed even registers. For info on my plane, a Peterson Cessna 182P 260SE with canards, see this video: https://youtu.be/AXrOppsrwbs
What do the canards do? https://youtu.be/5eSFqGyKgsw
Welcome to my second flying VLOG, showing my second cobweb-busting, rust-removing solo flight after a 3 month stoppage due to covid restrictions.
I departed Dunkeswell runway 22, performed 3 circuits with touch and go landings using 20 degrees, 40 deg full flaps and flapless landings, then flew to Compton Abbas airfield for a landing on Runway 26.
As you can see from my approach track on SkyDemon, my overhead join and my departure tracks left a lot to be desired, as did my RT comms. (I have flown again since this video on a longer cross country and am glad to say it's improved.)
Reviewing this video was immensely valuable to me, it taught me a huge lesson. I thought the flight went really well, I was feeling "back in the zone" and my confidence was returning. As you can see, the reality is somewhat different.
However, as you'll see, I made a number of sloppy mistakes that I didn't realise at the time. Watching it now makes me realise how much more I need to up my game, sharpen my skills and practice the basics.
This video covers 2 flights and around 75min total flying time. I have deliberately left in a lot of small detail which may be dull for some, but helpful for others.
My primary purpose of publishing these is to give back to the YouTube pilot community from whom I learn so much, and hope that sharing my flying, warts and all, is of value to other pilots also on a mission to constantly improve their airmanship.
Sorry about the horrendous lockdown hair - it has now been cut!
