October Concert Preview: "In The Middle"
Join us for our season premiere concert "In The Middle" October 14-15, 2022 at 8 pm via livestream or in-person at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Emory University. Tickets and more info are available at https://www.atlantamasterchorale.org/concerts.
Concert Description:
We often find ourselves in the middle of something. Perhaps it’s a book that we are halfway through or a project at work that is not yet finished. We can look back and feel good about how much progress we’ve made while simultaneously realizing that there is still a long way to go.
The music on our first concert of the season will be a celebration of the joys found in the present moment. As the Thomas Morley madrigal puts it:
Sing we and chant it while love doth grant it.
Not long youth lasteth and old age hasteth.
Now is best leisure to take our pleasure.
One of the pieces on this program we are most excited about is a work for choir and chamber orchestra on a Dylan Thomas text called “Fern Hill.” In it, the poet reflects with warm nostalgia on how it felt to be a youth playing in the Welsh countryside. In case you are wondering where the piece will fall in the program, it will be right in the middle.
