How to Teach Dictogloss: Teacher Training
Today, we look at my favourite how to teach dictogloss in the English language classroom. This is demonstrated with a lesson that was recorded. What other area of teaching do you want to learn more about?
Don't forget the basic elements of a successful dictogloss lesson:
1. Write a story
2. Read the story to the students
3. Tell students to listen again and then write all the nouns
4. Students check all the nouns together
5. Tell the students the story again and they write all the verbs
6. Students checks verbs together
7. Tell the story and students write down all adjectives
8. Students then work together and rewrite the story in their own words
9. Students then check for any errors in their groups
10. Students compare the original story to the one that they wrote
It is a really useful activity and the class in the video was a monolingual class of Spanish Elementary language learners. However, despite their language level, they achieved a lot in the lesson and were able to start using narrative tenses quite effectively.
