Ha-Joon Chang: Coronavirus lessons from East Asia | CoronaNomics Ep 6
"The Covid-19 pandemic began in East Asia but governments there - from China, to South Korea, to Japan, to Taiwan and Singapore - have been credited with coping far more effectively with coronavirus than some of their counterparts in the West.
South Korean economist, Ha-Joon Chang, rejects the notion that cultural differences have helped East Asian countries deal with the coronavirus outbreak more effectively. So are there lessons to be learned by the rest of the world? And not just in coping with future diseases, but in how we fundamentally order our societies?
In episode six of CoronaNomics, Ben Chu (Economics Editor at The Independent) and Lizzy Burden (Economics reporter for The Telegraph) speak to Dr Ha-Joon Chang, a University Reader in the Political Economy of Development, Faculty of Economics, at the University of Cambridge."
