BJP shuts Madrassas in Assam, Opposition oppose secular reform? | India Upfront

The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has decided to end the appeasement of certain social groups for vote bank considerations. In a major historic secular leap forward, the BJP in an Assam has decided to convert Madrassas into regular schools with the modern syllabus. Infact, it's providing its state government in Assam to go for monumental reforms that will truly bring in a secular approach and most importantly a total separation of Church from the state. Opposition slams ‘secular’ reforms, but BJP says, ‘Move to end appeasement.’

Author Anand Ranganathan says that It astonishes me that Assam was running 614 Madrassas. All these will now be converted to mainstream schools. The step should be welcomed by all Indians.
