About the Upper Canal

Did you know that 20% of Sydney’s water flows along a canal that meanders through south-west Sydney?

It’s called the Upper Canal – and it flows through Kemps Creek, Austral, Leppington, Denham Court, Emerald Hills, Gledswood Hills, Gregory Hills, Currans Hill, Mount Annan and Glen Alpine.

WaterNSW looks after the Upper Canal – and we use it to move water from 4 dams south of Sydney to Prospect Reservoir where it’s treated for us to drink.
