ABOUT THIS FEED:

The Decatur Union Depot was Alabama Main Street’s 2015-16 Historic Preservation Project of the Year. It was built by the Southern Railway in 1905 and is a symbol of the city’s rich railroad heritage which extends back to the 1830s, when the first railroad west of the Allegheny Mountains, the Tuscumbia-Courtland-Decatur Railroad, was built. Eventually, the Southern Railway and the L&N Railroad jointly used the depot for passenger service. The depot is next to the mainline of the CSX and the Norfolk-Southern railroads. Adjacent to the mainlines is a transfer yard that services the major industry in the city. The depot is located in Historic Downtown Decatur between the historic neighborhoods of Old Decatur and Old Town.

The NS Memphis East Sub passes in front of the cameras. Just to the West (left, the NS Memphis East Sub continues and the CSX S and N A North Sub branches off. The bridge over the Tennessee River is less the 1/2 mile to the East (right).

There is no Amtrak service here.
