Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 60th Anniversary - Part 2 FLIBS 2019

Part 2 of my FLIBS 2019 60th Anniversary series! This was on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

On this journey to the boat show, I park over at the Fort Lauderdale Brightline train station for only $8 for the entire day. Hopping on a free shuttle, it's a short ride to the landmark Riverside Hotel where we wait for a water taxi at Laura Ward Riverwalk Plaza sandwiched between the hotel and the historic Stranahan House. An all day water taxi pass is $12 and will get you to all locations of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

On this second day visit to the show, we're heading to the Broward Convention Center to see the smaller boats, including a lot of center consoles, in a dry air conditioned environment. We have to travel to the main hub of the show at the Bahia Mar dock and make a transfer onto another water taxi which will bring us directly to the convention center. We see plenty of huge yachts and houses along the way as well as the ever-elusive Arkup floating house (I'm going to get coverage of it one of these days). After our journey through the New River and Stranahan River (Intracosatal Waterway) we reach Water Taxi Stop #4 just under the 17th Sreet Causeway between the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina (another FLIBS location we'll visit in Part 3) and the Broward Convention Center.

There's more walking as we make our way into the convention center grounds. We start at the Sailfish Pavilion area which includes the Aqua Zone, a large pool for personal watercraft demos. We head into a large tent where there's boats, accessories, and more. Eric from ESS (Electric Surf Sports) shows us the extremely awesome Lift eFoil. (Eric invited me to try it out one day up in Jupiter so I'm looking forward to bringing you some kickass coverage of that one day!) It reminds me of the hoverboards in Back to the Future II. "Hoverboards don't work on water unless you've got power!" Well these have POWER!!!

Back outside, we pass the convention center's beautiful fountain before heading inside the main building. Convention Center Console Madness!!! Plenty of center consoles in the convention center. I have 3 separate videos of these boats so be sure to check those out too! An announcement for a Shark Identification and Behavior Seminar is made over the PA while I'm looking at the Mako boats! I go on a journey, searching for this seminar. No one knows where it is as I walk back and forth several times and pass some other interesting thinks along the way. At the Coral Reef Stage, we see tropical fish and jellyfish. After passing numerous places to eat and other vendors, I discover the secret location of the seminar! I'm late. It's already started. I open the door slowly and quietly enter. The speaker continues talking about shark physiology for a while and then snaps at me that there's no recording inside! A total bust, I decide to just stick with the boats.

I head back outside to the Sailfish Pavilion area and grab some lunch (shrimp Po Boy) at The Grill. I head out of the convention center area to go check out the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina which you'll see in Part 3.
