Mysterious sinkhole in Mexico has voracious appetite | DW News

A massive sinkhole in Santa Maria Zacatepec, Puebla, Mexico, is 20 meters deep and contains huge amounts of water. When it first appeared, it measured 5 meters in diameter, but within hours it grew to 80 meters wide. It is continuing to grow and now threatens to swallow a nearby house.
The cause of the sinkhole could be subsoil water variations. Experts point to overexploitation of aquifers, although its precise origin is still a mystery.
Meanwhile, neighbors just hope the hole stops expanding.
The Governor has warned local residents to stay away from the area.
