Gold at $4K: Dangerously Overbought or an Unstoppable Freight Train? | Gold's Breakout Explained
In the latest Market on Close livestream, co-hosts John Rowland, CMT, and “Twitter Tom” tackled a shocking chart milestone: Gold’s monthly Relative Strength Index (RSI) just rose above 90 — signaling the most overbought conditions since 1980.
But instead of calling a top, John had a very different take: “RSI is like a speedometer — it’s just telling you how fast the market’s going. Right now, gold is the Ferrari of assets. You don’t step in front of that freight train.”
RSI hitting 90 doesn’t automatically mean gold futures (GC*1) are doomed to fall. In fact, as John explains, overbought conditions can last far longer than traders expect — especially when the underlying fundamentals support them.
