Surgical correction of atresia ani in calf: A congenital defect

Atresia ani is the congenital condition in which calves are born with either a small opening or no opening at all at the anus due to a failure of the anal membrane to break down.  
Surgical correction was done using local infiltration of 2% lignocaine HCL. An incision was made on anal bulging.  The blind end of anus was incised and after removal of feaces, the circumference was sutured with interepted suture pattern with black braided silk no 1, by suturing rectal mucosa and skin to make a permanent anal orifice.
Post-operatively Inj. Amoxicillin cloxacilin 1 gm and inj. Meloxicam 3 ml was given for 5 days.
