How to Connect & Disconnect Travel Trailer Step by Step Tutorial with Checklist

This is an introductory video on how to connect and disconnect your travel trailer! This video will have a step by step process to ensure you get on the road as safely as possible. We will also go over many mistakes we have made to save you a future headache. Below I will attach a written procedure checklist ✅. Happy travels!!!
Procedure checklist

Attaching Trailer

1) Hitch into receiver and lock 🔐
2) Retract your stabilizers
3) Raise tounge on trailer so you have enough clearance to clear your vehicle’s hitch
4) Remove locking pin on trailer tounge so it can sit onto the hitch and connect properly
5) Reverse car slowly until the ball is seated under the trailer tounge
6) Lower trailer onto hitch ( release all the weight off the tounge jack )
7) Put locking pin back into place 🔐
8) Cross trailer chains and connect to car
9) Attach breakaway cable
10) Put on weight distribution / sway bar
11) Connect trailer electrical to car and test all brake lights and turn signals
12) Check tire pressure on trailer and on tow vehicle
13) Disconnect all drain lines if they are connected
14) Lock pass though storage and all other features
15) Turn off propane
16) Walk around trailer and double check everything on the list.
Prepare inside cabin
17) Make sure everything that can break is stored away safely
18) Lock all cabinets and secure them shut with twist ties
19) Make sure fridge is closed and latched
20) Turn off all lights and unplug electronics
21) Remove/ secure all decorations on walls
22) Double check everything is ready for rough travel!
23) Lock door on way out / bring in stairs
24) Remove wheel chocks
25) You are ready to drive!

Detaching Trailer
1) Put emergency brake on and place wheel chocks
2) Turn emergency brake off
3) Remove locking pin and lower tounge jack
4) Disconnect sway bar / trailer chains
5) Remove breakaway cable
6) Detach electrical connections
7) Pull tow Vehicle away
8) Level your camper front to back with tounge jack
9) Extend stabilizers
10) Connect your electrical / sewage / water
11) Happy Camping!!!
