Birth of a Neural Circuit / Cell, October 3, 2019 (Vol. 179, Issue 2)

The development of the entire zebrafish spinal cord, from neurogenesis to the emergence of spontaneous motor behavior, is visualized, quantitatively analyzed at the single-cell level, and perturbed to reveal how patterned neuronal activity in the earliest functioning circuit—the motor circuit—is initiated and coordinated during embryogenesis.
