Former DEA agent Hector Berrellez disclosed that Rafael Caro Quintero, notorious Guadalajara Cartel co-founder, is currently held in New York but not charged with the 1985 murder of DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena. Berrellez explained that Mexico expelled Caro Quintero to the U.S. due to its opposition to the death penalty, allowing U.S. authorities to detain him on Continuing Criminal Enterprise charges—excluding the Camarena murder case. Berrellez, who led the Camarena investigation, suspects that Caro Quintero has been shielded to protect alleged CIA involvement linked to the killing. He revealed that the CIA once aided Caro Quintero's escape after Camarena's murder. While Caro Quintero faces murder charges in other states, Berrellez doubts he will be extradited to California unless former President Donald Trump intervenes, believing Trump might expose CIA complicity.
