Reprendre une musique qui n’est pas la sienne n’est pas un exercice facile, surtout si cette musique est ancrée depuis des siècles dans la culture populaire et qu’elle a déjà été maintes fois reprise par de grands noms de la musique. Sláinte s’est prêté au jeu en reprenant la ballade irlandaise « Star of the County Down » et il faut reconnaître que ce défi a été relevé avec brio.

Le texte de « Star of the County Down » vient d’un poème écrit au début du XXème siècle par Cathal McGarvey. Il relate la rencontre entre un homme (le narrateur) et une femme du nom de Rosie McCann, aussi surnommée « star of the County Down ». Tout au long du poème, le lecteur suit les pensées de l’homme, qui tombe amoureux de Rosie et se projette déjà dans l’idée de l’épouser. Quant à la musique, c’est un air connu du folklore irlandais. Cette chanson a été reprise notamment par les Irlandais Van Morrison (avec The Cheftaines) et Dylan Walshe, par le groupe anglais The Pogues, par la chanteuse canadienne Loreena Mckennitt. « Star of the County Down » a fait le tour du monde, jusqu’à Tacoma, la ville des Etats-Unis d’où est originaire Sláinte.
