ADIDAS ADIZERO ADIOS PRO VS NIKE VAPORFLY | FINALLY, NIKE VAPORFLY HAS A COMPETITION IN ROAD RACING

This video is a short report on the evolution of Nike Vaporfly series road racing shoes. The Nike vaporfly shoes with its three variants i.e the Nike Zoomx Vaporfly Elite, Nike Zoomx Vaporfly 4% and the latest Nike Zoomx Vaporfly Next have dominated the world of elite road running for almost three years like no other shoe in History since they were first launched in 2017.
These path breaking racing shoes were Omnipresent at all major road racing events and almost every elite runner was racing in these shoes.
The Nike Vaporfly with its three variantswere not only responsible for almost all podium finish but many world records were broken recently by elite runner donning these shoes.
The vaporfly shoes were initially custom built for Eliud Kipchoge, the greatest marathon runner ever and for two other athletes for the Nike project of breaking the 2 hour barrier in the Marathon. Though he missed breaking the 2 hour barrier in his first attempt by only 23 seconds, Eliud Kipchoge broke the world record by running in these shoes at the 2018 Berlin Marathon.
The women’s marathon record, which was set by Paula Radcliffe in 2003 and unbreakable for 16 years, was also broken by Brigid Kosgei at the Chicago Marathon in 2019 with the Nike Vaporfly.
The former 5k & 10K world record holder Kenenisa Bekele also came within a very striking distance of breaking the Marathon record at the 2019 Berlin Marathon by racing in these shoes and clocking 2 hrs 1 minute and 41 seconds, just 2 seconds shy of the world record set by Kipchoge a year earlier.
At the Valencia Marathon in 2019 the men winners in all categories i.e the 10k, Half Marathon and the Marathon ran in the Nike Zoom Vaporfly.
What made these shoes very fast was the infusion of a lightweight carbon fibre plate sandwiched between the Nike ZoomX foam sole which delivers propulsion and more energy return with each stride.

It seemed that the dominance of these shoes built with path breaking shoe technology and innovation was going to last forever.
But this was not to be. With the launch of the Adidas Adizero Adios pro in September 2020, the Nike Vaporfly had a worthy opponent on the roads.
We got to see the Adizero Adios Pro for the first time at the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon in November 2020 where three runners ran the Half Marathon within 59 minutes. While, Amdework Walalegn with the vaporflys won the race, Andamlek Belihu came in second with the Adidas adios pro. This was the first time recently that a shoe from another brand had given such a tough competition to the vaporflys.
However, it was at the Valencia Marathon on 6th Dec 2020 that the adidas adizero adios pro shoes announced their arrival with a bang. A Half Marathon world record was created in these shoes by Kibiwott Kandie with a timing of 57 minutes and 32 seconds with an average stunning speed of 2 mins 44 seconds per kilometre.
The Adidas Adios Pro shoes also showcased their speed in the Full Marathon event which saw a nail biting sprint finish between Lawrence Cherono who was running in the Vaporflys and Evans Chebet in Adios Pro. Eventually, Evans Chebet won this race by 4 seconds proving once again that the Adios Pro are built for top speed.
It would be very difficult to judge at this moment whether the Adidas Adios Pro is better than the Nike Vaporfly or whether the Vaporfly are still the fastest running shoes on the road.
We will be able to gain more insights on these two best ever racing shoes in the upcoming races especially at the Tokyo Olympic Marathon.
There is also a talk of Nike coming up with a modified version of the Alphafly shoes confirming to IAAF standards. This competition between the shoes is going to be exciting to watch and in the near future what it means is that the elite runners will have to rely not only on their training but also on the best racing shoe built with the latest technology and innovation.
