Spinosaurus: The Controversy of the Aquatic Dinosaur

It seems that although evidence supports it, depicting Spinosaurus as an aquatic animal raises as many questions as it answers. All non-avian dinosaur genera were terrestrial, so saying that one genus is aquatic is not only weird but could also be invalid. This is the classic controversy of the famous sail-backed dinosaur, the Spinosaurus.

The newest fossil discovery has made it obvious that Spinosaurus could swim, but it does not end here, the study implied that Spinosaurus' ability to swim meant that it hunted in water, this however, might not have been the case.

A 2021 closer evaluation into the ecology of Spinosaurus proved that the aquatic adaptations mentioned in the famous 2020 paper and the description of the neotype fossil in 2014 were not definitive to an aquatic lifestyle. This finally settled a decade long debate circling the presence of mysterious aquatic adaptations in a seemingly terrestrial group of animal.
