Multi Axis Wood Turning - The Crankshaft Candlestick.
Hello and welcome! In this video I make a decorative candle and wobbly candlestick from oak and walnut using a wood turning lathe and eccentric / multi axis turning.
After rounding the blank and forming the candle cup, I shaped the candlestick by turning it on three parallel axis, carefully working towards the chuck one section at a time. I tried to keep them a consistent height by using a 1/4" parting tool and callipers for checking diameters.
The piece was then remounted on a 4th axis to add a little detail to the base block. To this point taking approximately an hour and a half to complete.
The candle was turned from a piece of oak and glued in place. The 'wick' is a small piece of white plastic tube I found when looking for the toothpick I was going to use.
Finished in flaxseed oil (raw linseed).
Filmed on a Panasonic GH2
Edited in iMovie
