MUMPS | CAUSES | SYMPTOMS | TREATMENT | HINDI

Mumps is a systemic viral infection characterised by swelling of parotid gland.

It caused by paramyxovirus.

It mostly affect to the children below age of 15yr but after that age virus also infect.

We have so many salivary gland.There are three main salivary gland named parotid gland,submandibular gland,sublingual gland.In mumps swelling of face because of swelling of parotid gland.

It spread by
1) Respiratory droplet - sneezing/coughing
2) By saliva - kiss,drink
3) By touching the contaminated surface - blanket,napkin
So,mumps spread to so many children in one particular area at one time.Main source of spread by one to another in schools,hostels.

SYMPTOMS.
Fever,Sore throat,Headache,Pain at the angle of jaw while chewing,Swelling of face.

Swelling occurs in both side in 75% cases either same time or one follow another.

It is virus & also spread in body and causes severe COMPLICATIONS.

COMPLICATION.
In male it causes inflammation of testes called Orchitis.
In female it causes inflammation of ovary called Oophoritis.
Inflammation of pancreas called Acute pancreatitis.
Inflammation of meninges called Meningitis.

One Important thing If child have Mumps & in same family if lady is pregnet than keep away that child from that lady to avoid severe complication.

MANAGEMENT.
Take plenty of fluids.
Frequent Mouth Wash.
Medicines given by doctor.
