Saskatchewan's government announced plans in August 2016 to cut benefits for the disabled (SAID) in an attempt to balance their budget. The people stood up and said no, rallying and petitioning by the hundreds in Saskatoon.
When economic times are tough, it's tempting for governments to cut social services and spending, but that's the worst time. When times are tough you need to invest more in people. That's how to save in the long run, that's how you keep people healthy and improve our lives.
The last thing you should be doing is trying to balance our economy on the backs of the most vulnerable.
