Tir Fada & Romvos - Salonika/Όμορφη Θεσσαλονίκη

Ένα βιντεάκι των Tir Fada, που δημιουργήθηκε με αφορμή τον εορτασμό του Αγίου Πατρικίου. Ερμηνεύει η Kathleen Hart, την οποία πλαισιώνουν τα καταπληκτικά παιδιά του Ρόμβου. Η Kathleen είναι ένας πολύ σημαντικός άνθρωπος για τους φίλους της ιρλανδικής μουσικής στη Θεσσαλονίκη, διότι από αυτήν και την μπάντα της, τους Folk U2, ακούσαμε για πρώτη φορά ιρλανδικά τραγούδια ζωντανά στην πόλη.

Το πρώτο τραγούδι είναι ιρλανδικό και αφορά τους στρατιώτες που ήρθαν να πολεμήσουν στη Θεσσαλονίκη κατά τον Α' Παγκόσμιο Πόλεμο. Το δεύτερο είναι η Όμορφη Θεσσαλονίκη του Τσιτσάνη.

Salonika/Όμορφη Θεσσαλονίκη
This pairing of an Irish and a Greek song was first played by Folk U2 as a tribute to our adopted city, Thessaloniki. The band is composed of native English speakers who chose to make this city our home and share our love of Celtic music. The first song is set against the backdrop of the Great War, when the Royal Dublin and Munster Fusiliers were sent to Thessaloniki to deter German invasion in 1916. The wives who were left behind in Ireland collected a separation payment, and the singer here is musing on the realities of life from a country embroiled in its own war (of independence). The Greek song by the great Rebetis Tsitsanis was one we encountered on the many nights we spent living the bohemian life in “Beautiful Thessaloniki” so it just naturally followed thematically and fortunately musically.
Tir Fada has been in the forefront of bringing Celtic culture to Greece. This nostalgic video created by Kostas Kyritsakis, Tir Fada’s multitalented maestro, captures the spirit of joy and camaraderie that we feel here in Thessaloniki. Romvos, a youth street band performing all around Thessaloniki, engenders a fiesta every time they appear thanks to their energy and madcap activities.
This video is fondly dedicated to the memory of Bob Chatel, who loved this city and is sorely missed by many.
