Running a bass-heavy beat through Rupert Neve Designs Shelford Channel: when Lo-fi meets Hi-fi
Here's a quick review on one of my favorite pieces of outboard equipment in my rack, the Rupert Neve Designs Shelford Channel Strip. I give a brief overview of the design and features, and then use it to thicken up an already bass-heavy instrumental I've been working on.
I usually take pride in using inexpensive pieces of gear to achieve a sound that's exceeds it. I love cheap, forgotten reverbs and compressors from the '90s and early 00s. This is the first time I had to save up for over a year to purchase a piece of equipment, and the most intentional purchase I've ever made on my studio (outside of my sequencers). This channel strip does it all -- top notch pre amp, laser sharp EQ, and a fast, transparent compressor.
Best tax return purchase I ever made.
