Italian Cookies by Diane Lovetobake

These cookies are traditionally made with anise but you can also use lemon extract or vanilla or stay with tradition using anise extract to make these great tasting cookies...
1/2 cup butter melted let cool om bowl
1/4 cup shortening melted let cool in bowl
3/4 cup granulated sugar
4 eggs room temperature
3 cups all-purpose flour sifted
5 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon anise,lemon or vanilla extract your choice
Pour cooled melted butter and shortening in mixer bowl
Add sugar slowly beat for 1-2 minutes till smooth
Add eggs one at a time beat 1 minute for each egg and so on
Mix in extract
Combine sifted flour, baking powder and salt slowly into wet ingredients till smooth. Don't over beat dough
Dough will be sticky put small amount of flour on counter top roll 1" ball of dough. Place on a ungreased baking sheet Place 1 1/2 inches apart. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes depending
Bottom will be light brown but top of cookie will be white
Place hot cookies on cooling rack
Glaze: 3-4 Tablespoons milk to desired thickness
2 cups powder sugar
1 teaspoon of your choice extract same as you put in the cookie dough mix.
Dip cookie with glaze and sprinkle colored dots, jimmies your choice Make 60 cookies
