Sweat, Thirst and Sudanese Hospitality | Cycling through the Sahara Desert

Cycling more than 1000 kilometers through the vast Sahara desert sounded very intimidating. The last 3 days in Egypt already gave me an impression of what it is like to cycle alone through the desert. But cycling in the desert of Sudan was an experience unlike anything. The road follows the Nile towards the capital of Sudan, Khartoum. Temperatures often went up to 45 degrees, I felt like cycling in a microwave. Camping in the immense desert with camels walking besides the tent was an incredible highlight. But one of my best memories from cycling in Sudan where the countless times I was invited for tea, for lunch or to stay the night.
