Cryogenic Electron Microscopy - A revolution in imaging of the smallest components of life

Just like the Hubble Space Telescope has changed our fundamental understanding of the universe, the development of the Cryogenic Electron Microscope (Cryo-EM) has revolutionized our study and understanding of the smallest components of life. An atomic-resolution view into the structure and dynamics of macromolecules such as viruses and protein complexes provides researchers with new and more detailed answers to their scientific questions.
The development of Cryo-EM is based on the research of Professor Joachim Frank for which he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2017.
